Chaucer's General Prologue
Chaucers General Prologue Essay Look into the introduction of three explorers from Chaucers General Prologue and show how their depictions add to our comprehension of his societyà The Canterbury Tales is a gathering of stories composed by Geoffrey Chaucer in around 1387. Chaucer intended to compose 24 stories yet passed on before he could finish them, along these lines, The Canterbury Tales comprise of 22 stanza stories and two long exposition stories. The General Prologue gives a brief yet distinctive depiction of every explorer venturing to Canterbury before the travelers really start telling their stories. Most writing written in the medieval period was written in either French or Latin, particularly sonnets or Holy Scriptures, so when Chaucer composed The Canterbury Tales in Middle English he was saying something. Chaucer needed to advance the vernacular language of England thus composed The Canterbury Tales in Middle English. Three of the best pictures of the travelers in the General Prologue are of the Knight, the Wife of Bath and the Monk who all disclose to us a lot about Chaucers society. The Knight is a verray, parfit, gentil knyght, who wins his living by battling for his confidence and his ruler. He has high status in the primitive framework and Ful commendable was he in his lordes werre. He is as meeke as a mayde, and he is likewise commendable and humble.à The manner by which Chaucer composes The Knight and the language he utilizes fortifies the point that the Knight is ethical. The similar sounding word usage in he were commendable, he was wys causes to notice the applause that Chaucer is giving him. Likewise triple negatives are utilized to fortify the point that he has no indecencies; he nevere yet no vileynye ne sayde. The Knight is modest and not materialistic where the content reads;à His hors were goode, yet he was nat gayà Of fustian he wered a gyponà Al bismotered with his habergeonà There is likewise an amusing metaphor in the refrain about the Knight where the content says, as meeke as a mayde this depicts him as quiet and delicate while we anticipate that a Knight should be fierce and pleased with himself. At long last, the rhyming couplets toward the finish of each line cause much more to notice his great characteristics for exampleâ . prysâ . wysà He couldn't care less what individuals consider him, he utilizes his pony for its capacity, and he doesn't adorn it intricately however just uses it for battling. The garments that he wears additionally tell the peruser that he isn't materialistic in light of the fact that he, wered a gypon/Al bismotered with his habergeon. The Wife of Bath lives biside Bathe and likes to weave, she has been hitched multiple times and offers guidance to individuals in adoration. Thries hadde she been at Jerusalem, which proposes that she is a blessed lady who has been on a great deal of journeys. Anyway she just needs to be viewed as strict and heavenly individual. Chaucer just claims to give proof of her dedication while he is truly saying that she isn't worried about religion, yet that she is progressively worried about her notoriety and what she looks like to others; Nobody to the offrynge before employ sholde goon. Despite the fact that she had been on various journeys, particularly to Jerusalem, Chaucer composes that she is frequently found wandrynge by the weye on them, passing numerous a weird strem. The similar sounding word usage here causes us to notice these subtleties. Chaucers uncertainty towards certain explorers thought processes in being on the journey is appeared in this section as he could be inferring that the Wife of Bath wandered from the strict reason for the trip.à Chaucer utilizes doublespeaks to allude to the Wife of Baths indiscrimination; gat-tothed, reed stockings, five spouses and oother compaigne in her childhood are on the whole statements to help this point. The five spouses could recommend that the Wife of Bath was an early women's activist since she utilizes men for her own potential benefit and in her story she guarantees womens prevalence over men. Peruse: First Confession Analysis EssayChaucer tenderly derides the gregarious Wife of Bath by telling the peruser in a misrepresented way that on Sunday at Church the wimple that she wore weyeden ten pound, this additionally indicates her materialistic and vain nature, which is totally different to the Knight. The Wife of Bath had garments such as;â hosen of fyn red reedà Ful streite yteyd and shoes ful moyste and newà That show that she is vain and materialistic in light of the fact that she has purchased new shoes for a journey and red stockings which would be over the top expensive on the grounds that to color garments brilliant hues was extravagant in those days.à The Knight, be that as it may, Of fustian he wered a gypon/Al bismotered with his habergeon which is totally the inverse. The Monk is a master ful fat and in great poynt; he is liberal; the way that The Monk likes to eat swan likewise proposes that he is liberal, not what a priest ought to be. The sleves purfiled at the hond/with grys, and that the fyneste of a lond. This proposes he is excessive and doesnt truly care about strict pledges. The analogy that says the Monks head shoon as any glas, could likewise recommend that he is vain. Like The Pardoner, The Monk is certifiably not a genuine minister; The Pardoner sells counterfeit relics, for example, white sheets and says they are the Virgin Marys cover and The Monk goes on journeys to escape the cloister. The Knight has numerous side interests, however most are related with war, for example, preparing the Squire, his child, participating in jousts, protecting the confidence, going abroad to fights. This recommends in Chaucers society there were numerous wars and that in the medieval framework; knights were required to battle to safeguard their confidence and country.à The Wife of Bath, nonetheless, appreciates weaving which would be normal since Bath was celebrated for fine materials. Of cures of affection she knew per chaunce, this implies she helps individuals with adoration, which is amusing thinking about that she Housbondes at chirche dore she hadde fyve. She went on a great deal of journeys like the Knight, however she koude muchel of wandrynge by the weye, which could imply that she redirected from the strict motivation behind the excursion. Aside from this, however she has a great deal of relaxation time to make the most of her different diversions. In any case, in contrast t o the Knight, the Wife of Bath appreciates things that will satisfy her needs and needs, while the Knights interests and leisure activities legitimately advantage others, for example, the Squire, his nation or his King The Monk appreciates chasing, which could suggest that he doesnt care about Gods animals as a Monk should. The Monk and The Pardoner are both degenerate, which strengthens the well known view that the Church at the time was rich and degenerate; The Parson is the main acceptable pastor on the journey. The Friar knew a great deal of the bars in the nation which proposes he possesses a ton of energy for social time which a priest ought not have.à Christians go to Canterbury to adore the altar of St Thomas Beckett who was killed at Canterbury. In the General Prologue, the characters got together at the Tabard Inn and chose to recount to their accounts. The alleged explanation these pioneers are going to Canterbury is to look for St. Thomas, heavenly saint favored, however some have other ulterior intentions in going there. The Knight, I believe, is on the journey to offer gratitude to God and St. Thomas Beckett for bringing him back fit as a fiddle from fight. The Wife of Bath likes to flaunt about being heavenly since no one to the offrynge before enlist sholde goon. She could be visiting Canterbury for a vacation, to travel more, to discover another spouse, to flaunt how rich she is; contrasted and The Knight she is on the journey for materialistic reasons while the Knight, similar to the Parson, is on the journey for genuine strict reasons. The Monk could be on the journey to mingle or it could be motivation to escape the secluded of the cloister; neither of which are blessed reasons. Peruse: Play It Again Rita EssayIn end I accept that the Knight is the main individual, alongside the Parson, who is on the journey for the correct reasons. The Knight is on the journey to express gratefulness to God and he commits his chance to the individuals who are out of luck. Then again The Monk is on the journey for one of two reasons, either to associate with others or just to escape the religious community. This mirrors the view at the time that the Church was degenerate and rich. The Wife of Bath is on the journey for vain and materialistic reasons the most probable reasons are either to flaunt her riches or to discover another spouse. This mirrors the situation of ladies in light of the fact that couldn't go out and live on their own they required the help of a spouse or a dad.

Block, MD on January 30, 2020 Bipolar Disorder Overview Symptoms & Diagnosis Causes Treatment Living With In Children Your Rights Braun S/Getty Images If someone with bipolar disorder goes untreated for a period of years, could he or she begin to experience rapid cycling bipolar disorder or become resistant to treatments for the condition? If normal life stressors initially set off bipolar episodes in someone, in time could episodes of the illness appear in that person without any such triggers? Some research says the answer to these questions is yes, and some clinicians have speculated that the reason may be a process that has been termed kindling. However, the most recent research into the theory of kindling and bipolar disorder indicates the evidence for this theory is weaker than originally thought. Still, the concept of kindling in mental illness may fit into other ideas about the mechanisms underlying bipolar disorder. What Is Kindling? Most people think of kindling when building a fire: You use smaller, more flammable pieces of wood to help catch on fire the larger pieces, which dont ignite as quickly or readily. But kindling also is used as a term in medicineâ"specifically, in epilepsy and in bipolar disorder. The phenomenon of kindling in epilepsy was first discovered by accident by researcher Graham Goddard in 1967. Goddard was studying the learning process in rats, and part of his studies included electrical stimulation of the rats brains at a very low intensity, too low to cause any type of convulsing. However, after a couple of weeks of this treatment, the rats did experience convulsions when the electrical stimulation was applied. Their brains had become sensitized to electricity, and even months later, one of these rats would convulse when stimulated. Goddard and others later demonstrated that it was possible to induce kindling chemically as well. The name kindling was chosen because the process was likened to a log fire. The log itself, while it might be a suitable fuel for a fire, is very hard to set ablaze in the first place. But surround it with smaller, easy to light pieces of woodâ"kindlingâ"and set those alight first, and soon the log itself will catch fire. Kindling in Bipolar Disorder Dr. Robert M. Post of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is credited with first applying the kindling model to bipolar disorder. Demitri and Janice Papolos, in their book The Bipolar Child, describe this model as follows: ... initial periods of cycling may begin with an environmental stressor, but if the cycles continue or occur unchecked, the brain becomes kindled or sensitized - pathways inside the central nervous system are reinforced so to speak - and future episodes of depression, hypomania, or mania will occur by themselves (independently of an outside stimulus), with greater and greater frequency. Thus, brain cells that have been involved in an episode are thought to be more likely to do so again, and more cells may become sensitized over time. The theory also holds that its possible to stop the process through aggressive treatment. Could Kindling Play a Role in More Severe Illnesses? Some researchers have speculated that kindling contributes to both rapid cycling and treatment-resistant bipolar disorder, and this theory also could be consistent with cases where cycling began with definite mood triggers, stressful or exciting events, and later became spontaneous. In addition, it has been shown that substances such as cocaine and alcohol have their own kindling effects, which could, in turn, contribute to bipolar kindling. In fact, it was the knowledge that cocaine causes seizures that led Dr. Post to connect kindling in epilepsy with mood disorders after he had studied the unexpected effects of cocaine on severely depressed patients. The kindling theory has been borne out by some research observations. For example, the more mood episodes someone has, the more difficult it is to treat each subsequent episode, possibly because more brain cells are sensitized and involved. However, the best-designed studies in the field of bipolar disorder dont provide strong backing for the kindling theory. Still, regardless of what future research finds about the kindling theory of bipolar disorder, its clear that early diagnosis and prompt, appropriate treatment are key to improving outcomes for those with the condition. When being asked which Civil Rights activist of the movement was most effective, the answer is quite obvious. This movement originated due to what is called ââ¬Å"Jim Crowâ⬠laws. These laws suggested that everyone is separate but equal. Otherwise became blindingly apparent when African Americans were subdued by whites in various ways. For example, the justice system always considered the case of white man over a black one. Also, an African American facility was certainly not comparable to the superior quality of Whiteââ¬â¢s. Soon, organizations began to form in attempts to stop this unjust treatment. One man in particular stands out the most throughout this movement of change: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr.ââ¬â¢s form of protestingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Not a single instance. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. realized that crime begets crime. If they were to protest negatively, they would only be brought to the reaction of the same kind; negativity. To cause violence will only bring violence and nothing more. Nonsensical burnings of buildings and demolition of neighborhoods would only be seen as such; the message of their actions would be lost along with the lives they destroy. On the other hand, Martin Luther King Jr. followed the teachings of Gandhi, which meant he supported the idea of protesting in an organized, harmless manor. King saw that ââ¬Å"an eye for an eye makes the whole world blindâ⬠(Gandhi). He understood that by reacting to the vicious ways white extremists were treating his activists in an angry manor would only spiral into the inevitable back and forth of bitter actions. This would not result in innovation, but destruction of a nation. So instead, Martin Luther King and his leagues of dedicated activists would find a way to form statements without forming fists. This resulted in the changing of laws and eventually, the end of segregation. Though Martin Luther King Jr. certainly dominated the scene of Civil Rights, there were certain actions carried out by Malcolm X that gave his role as an activist importance. First of all, he influenced many leaders after him to speak out against discrimination. Also, Malcolm X embodied black power. Social Norm Paper Free Essays
Erika Lamberson Mrs. DeRoussell Psychology April 9, 2013 Social Norms P1. To be accepted by society people have to follow the norm. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Norm Paper or any similar topic only for you Order Now When you step outside of the mainstream you are considered ââ¬Å"differentâ⬠no matter how right you are. Thatââ¬â¢s why when someone starts a movement people are against him, until enough people start do it his way and ââ¬Å"it becomes the normâ⬠. It is also called trying to fit in because if you do something out of the norm, you are pretty much an outsider. People get others to do things out of the norm every day, it just goes unnoticed. Most of the time people donââ¬â¢t do it in public because it isnââ¬â¢t something they want to draw attention to. I am choosing to violate the social norm of going through a drive-thru forwards in a vehicle. I am doing this to find out what kind of reactions I get when I do something out of the ââ¬Ësocial normââ¬â¢. Going through the drive-thru backwards, whether it is at a fast food place or a bank is not said to be normal. Normally, people pull up to the window with their vehicle facing forward. When I do this social norm violation, I expect to get a lot of responses. This experiment will be very hard for me to do considering I will have to drive my vehicle in reverse. I predict that the responses will be to get weird looks or possibly laughed at. People donââ¬â¢t normally see someone coming through a drive-thru with their car faced backwards. Not only is it not normal, it can also be dangerous and embarrassing. My only concerns about completing this experiment are that I get it done safely without hurting myself, my vehicle, or anyone else for that matter. Since I will have to go through the drive-thru backwards, this is going to be a challenge. I will have to watch out of every mirror I have and also pay attention to the people behind me. P2. My plan to complete this social norm experiment is to go through the drive-thru at two different restaurants. The first one will be at a place called Taco Bell. The second will be at Burger King. This will be difficult because I have never gone through a drive-thru in reverse. I will order at the ordering station, and then pull up to the window, pay for my food, receive my food, all while driving in reverse. I will be observing the way the employees and customers act. Depending on how good this experiment goes, they will all understand why I am doing this. P3. The first thing I did when I pulled into Taco Bell was drive to the back of the restaurant and park my truck. I did this so I could make sure that there werenââ¬â¢t going to be a lot of people going through the drive-thru. The time of night is around 9 at this point, so there werenââ¬â¢t a lot of people out. I started to back up and go to the ordering station. The first curve to the ordering station is a little sharp so of course I had trouble while trying to drive in reverse. I had my boyfriend with me so he could help observe and order for me. After I got to the ordering station a car pulled up next in line. I couldnââ¬â¢t really see the look on their faces because their headlights were shining right in my eyes. The employee takes our order and we proceed to drive to the window. When we get to the window, the look on the girls face was priceless. When we received our food, we continued to drive backwards like nothing was wrong. Then came the hardest part of the experiment at Taco Bell, pulling back out onto the main road in reverse. My boyfriend and I made sure that no one was coming from either way just to keep from causing a wreck. I had to quickly pull out onto the main road and turn around as fast as possible. The second restaurant I did the social norms experiment at was Burger King. This place is never very busy so I decided I would go around lunch time. I also had my boyfriend do this one with me. It was around 1 PM on a rainy Saturday. The drive-thru of Burger King was way easier than Taco Bell because it is a lot wider and doesnââ¬â¢t have a sharp turn. I came to the ordering station and my boyfriend began to order our food. By the time we got to the window to pay for our food, there were 3 people standing there wondering what in the world we were doing. I explained to them why I was driving backwards, and they agreed that they thought it was a fun idea. After we got our food, they laughed and started talking about how they had always seen on the internet someone driving through a drive-thru backwards but hadnââ¬â¢t ever seen it in person. P4. The responses I got were very different at both places. I am not sure if it was because of the employees working or if it was just the time of the day that I went. The people at Taco Bell didnââ¬â¢t really have that much of a reaction. I got the hint that they just thought I was a stupid teenager that was trying to be cool. I did see one person in the back cooking that laughed and gave me a thumbs up. At Burger King they were so much more interested in what I was doing than anything else. They all gathered at the window and were laughing and carrying on and asking me all sorts of questions. I think I had very different reactions because it was late at night for Taco Bell and all the employees just wanted to go home. P5. The experience of violating a social norm was definitely thrilling. I donââ¬â¢t think I would have ever thought to do something like this without the realization of how important ââ¬Ësocial normsââ¬â¢ are. The experiment left me with more knowledge about how important social norms are to people. To go against a social norm is looked down on most of the time. I was really great to go out and do the opposite and see what the reactions were. Even though you donââ¬â¢t get a good reaction, another place may laugh with you. You should never be too embarrassed to try something out of the norm. How to cite Social Norm Paper, Papers

Refugee blues free essay sample
Refugee blues In this poem, the author have used a ballad form. This poem is lyrical which means it is a lyrics to a song. The poem have two rhyming lines of each stanza with the third line which got repetition and this develops the theme. The title refugee blues holds an emotional intensity, shows the critical of society which the people who doesnt belong to that country. In the first stanza, the word souls shows that it is something holy and valuable and they should be treated all the same like everyone else. The word my dear shows that they are married. However, we dont know whether the wife or the husband is talking. In the third stanza, the sentence in the village churchyard these grows an old yew contrasts with the sentence old passports cant do that, my dear, old passports cant do that as the tree could go through the natures cycle while once the passport is lost, it can never be recovered. In the sixth stanza, the sentence if we let them in, they will steal our daily bread the word daily bread allusions to the prayer Our Father . The sentence he was talking to me , my dear shows intimate and close. Meanwhile, in the ninth and tenth stanza, the refugee highlights the ridiculous of the situation that they are in by contrasting it with the freedom of the fish swimming in the ocean and the birds singing in the trees. they had no politicians and they werent the human race This poem is a good example of the role poets and their works can play in social change. Auden not only makes readers aware of the refugee plight, but also requires us empathize with understandings. Refugee Blues free essay sample Both Auden and Gray create a sincere illusion of reality to promote the refugeeââ¬â¢s alienation and suffering in both stories ultimately bringing the two gripping tales to life. Both Auden and Faulks use imagery as an extremely strong literary device to create alienation towards the refugees in their two stories. Immediately Auden introduces the reader to the impossible situation that the characters that they find themselves in. Auden manipulates social structure and the feeling of alienation towards the refugees with the use of natural imagery. Lines such as ââ¬Å"saw a door opened and a cat let inâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Thought I heard thunder rumbling in the sky; â⬠¦ they must dieâ⬠. These two lines not only show the manner in which the refugees have been regarded as completely inferior but also that they are willed to die, disregarding the concept of escape. In Faulkââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe Last Nightââ¬â¢, though not as frequently, also uses natural imagery to highlight the distressing solitude of the refugees and their impossible situation. We will write a custom essay sample on Refugee Blues or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page ââ¬Å" Though none of the scraps reached as far as the enclosure. The word ââ¬Ëenclosureââ¬â¢ emphasizes how the Jews had been cast aside as ââ¬Ësocial dirtââ¬â¢ as animals are normally associated as being hoarded into an enclosure by human beings. The two pieces ââ¬ËRefugee bluesââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Last Nightââ¬â¢ differ significantly in the way that they are written. In Audenââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËRefugee Bluesââ¬â¢ the story of the refugees is told through a poem with three lines in each stanza. Whereas in Grayââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe Last nightââ¬â¢ the structure follows more of a story and is written in the third person. Audenââ¬â¢s poem is written to the tune of blues music, which was very popular and fashionable at the time the poem was written. Say this city has ten million souls, some are living in mansions, some are living in holes. The rhythm created throughout provokes a melancholy atmosphere to be interpreted by the reader enticing compassion towards the refugees and further discriminating and separating the Jewish characters and their race from the rest of the world. Unlike Gray, Faulks writes the ââ¬ËThe Last Nightââ¬â¢ in the form of a historical fiction indicating the lack of a particular rhythm in which the story can be read. These contrasting rhythms though seem to create to same feeling of sadness and empathy towards the characters. Faulkââ¬â¢s choice of diction and literary techniques match with the rhythm and tone of ââ¬ËRefugee Bluesââ¬â¢ and create a huge similarity between the way the two poems are written to create alienation towards the refugees. Auden and Faulks use foreshadowing both subtly and palpably early on in each text to show what will happen in the near future of the two stories. Faulks in particular manipulates this technique to show upcoming events. In the opening statement ââ¬Å"Andre and his brother Jacobâ⬠¦ to a concentration campâ⬠presented in bold for added effect, Faulks immediately introduces the reader to the ignorance and innocence of the children not being able to fully understand their predicament because they are both at such a young age. They do not realise the harsh reality that has befallen them and the rest of the Jews in Europe. As orphaned children they have already been split up from their parents and this can be interpreted as a model for other families who are situated with the two boys. That pain and sorrow will be felt and loneliness endured by all the children going to the concentration camp. Additionally, in the second paragraph of Faulkââ¬â¢s text he speaks of a woman handing out food and people having ââ¬Å"food for the journeyâ⬠. This can be deduced by the reader as another use of foreshadowing. It was believed that Adolf Hitler was of the Christian religion. This scene of people eating food before the tragic events that ensue are similar and almost mirror that of the last supper, the Christian fable that exists in the bible where Jesus was last before he was crucified and sent to his imminent death. It is seen as the ultimate betrayal in the bible when Judas sold out Jesus to the Romans for thirty silver coins. The connection between the two estranged events though shows that, just like Jesus, the ignorant children are completely unaware of the fact the food being handed out represents to the reader that the end is near as did the last supper for Jesus. This could be seen as the Faulkââ¬â¢s demonstration of Hitlerââ¬â¢s somewhat extreme impiety displaying him as Judas even though Hitler was of Christian religion. In ââ¬ËRefugee Bluesââ¬â¢ Auden writes in his first paragraph ââ¬Å"Yet thereââ¬â¢s no place for us, my dear, yet thereââ¬â¢s no place for us. â⬠Auden exploits the predicament of the refugees to emonstrate that they are completely alone and segregated from society and they are regarded as substandard population and presages what is to come for the Jews at the conclusion of the poem. With the use of Irony Auden ends the poem on the line ââ¬Å"Looking for you and me, my dear, looking for you and me. â⬠After so much suffering was brought to the refugees by being neglected by people who thought to be superior human beings, they were finally being sought after but only to taken to their inexplicably to their death, meaning that there is still no place for them in the society that they will no longer live in. In conclusion Both W. H. Auden and Sebastian Faulks tell the tragic tales of Jewish Refugees who find themselves in an impossible situation. Their attention to detail is impeccable allowing the reader to be engulfed in the story and empathise with the characters and live the story. Both manipulate certain ideas, themes and literary devices using similar and contrasting ideas to ultimately create a sense of great alienation towards the refugees in each tale.

Global Financing and Exchange Rate Mechanisms Paper
Global Financing and Exchange Rate Mechanisms Paper Free Online Research Papers A Tariff can be generalized as a comprehensive tax on goods that are imported from foreign countries. The goal of a tariff is to secure the domestic product of a given nation from cheaper goods which are imported from nations that have a larger producing capacity. Tariff also helps to balance the prices in a country. Issues that may arise from tariff can be double sided. In other words, tariff has the power to bring businesses and governments down to instant financial security (Wikipedia, 2007). There are many different tariffs in which each is designed for a specific operation. The most notable tariffs are the protective tariff, the revenue tariff, and the prohibitive tariff. The protective tariff was enacted to inflate the prices set by imported products which create a positive vacuum for domestically based industries. This type of tariff places high tax on foreign imports which in turn forces a given company to raise its prices above its competitors who are based domestically. The revenue tariff is designed to generate and accumulate large amount of finances for the government. An example of such tariff would be a country that has very little product. In order to keep the domestic gains strong the government will need to install tariff on the imported goods which will levy the prices. This act by the government creates a security blanket for the limited product of certain import goods. The prohibitive tariff is the worst tariff to use in a global market today. Thi s type of tariff is used to eradicate competition between a foreign and domestic producer as well as to stop foreign imports in its track. It is similar to an embargo that is placed on a given country. The different types of tariff mentioned above are developed in tariff barriers for foreign market officials (Wikipedia, 2007). Economical theories support that tariff barriers are a major hindrance as well as a form of degradation for the free market system. The fact of the matter is tariffs are bias when it comes to the consumer. This has been proven to be true in which the government along with its corporate attachments prevent consumer from achieving a product at the lowest price while still retaining quality. It is seldom for a given country to artificially preserve a withering industry while at the same time negate the larger scale global market imports. It is beneficial for a given country to let an industry fall into ruin than supporting it. The contribution to the countries GDP would be insufficient versus the rapid import of trade and development. A country that has a large scale tariffs is always equilibrium within the socioeconomic structure. There are problem that may arises due to the lack of competition between foreign and domestic businesses. History has shown that when there is no c ompetition in a business sector, companies are apt to do less quality work and little innovation within a given sector (Yu, Z. 2006). Non-tariff barriers are restrictions in the importing of goods but are not presented in the usual form of tariffs. The non-tariff barriers have been criticized throughout the years because it establishes free trade rules that could be negated to a certain extent. This type of barrier is apt to assume the form of production or manufacturing requirements of goods. An example of such would be the European Unions restriction on material that have been altered or meat that had been subjected to high levels of hormone supplements. Non-tariff barriers are used in situations when it is absolutely necessary to protect health, safety, sanitation or to protect depleting natural resources. The non-tariff barriers that are most often traded are procurement, state subsidies, trading, ownership, national regulations on health, safety, employment, product classification, quotas, multiplicity, exchange or control, buy national policy, over elaborate or inadequate infrastructure, intellectual p roperty laws, corruption and bribery, restrictive licenses, unfair customs procedures, import bans, and lastly seasonal import regimes (Yu, Z. 2006. Unlike tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers have a long lasting effect on trade. In recent years, the tariff barriers have been significantly reduced leaving the non-tariff barriers to become prevalent in distorting as well as restricting international trade. This is being recognized as non-tariff barrier is ascertaining the position of conventional tariffs. Alan V. Deardorff (2006) stated in a report that ââ¬Å"Calculation of the tariff equivalent of a given NTB for a given economic indicator is complex, and requires a great deal of information. Measures that are equivalent for one indicator will not be so for others, and there is no substitute for NTB-specific expertise.â⬠Many economists recognized the non-tariff barrier as the root that causes the breakdown of trade with countries and with major competitor in the propagation of menial social welfare. The non-tariff barrier increases conformity costs which subsequently leads to higher deadweight loss of social welfare that the equivalent tariff barriers. The resulting cost may reach a level that eliminates potential trade partners in particular the small ones from the market. Increasing trade policy transparency and reducing non-tariff barriers are essential in trade liberalization. Non-tariff as well as tariff barriers seem to set out in order to accomplish similar views. A person may assume that the different type of tariff barriers may be devious than the other; however, both tariff and non-tariff barriers are both synonymous subject matter whose ambitions are concentrated on domestic proliferation. One may say that tariffs are not detrimental to the socioeconomic future of a society as non-t ariffs but the terms for both tariffs are somewhat the same. References Deardorff, A. Career Planning for Homeschoolers
Career Planning for Homeschoolers When youââ¬â¢re homeschooling a high school student, it helps to realize that one of the many roles youââ¬â¢ll need to fill is that of guidance counselor. A guidance counselor helps students make the best choices to be as successful as possible in their academic and post-graduation choices. One of the areas in which youââ¬â¢ll need to guide your student is in his or her potential career options. Youââ¬â¢ll want to help him explore his interests, uncover his aptitudes, and decide what post-graduation choices will help him achieve his goals. Your teen may go directly into college or the workforce, or he may decide that a gap year will be beneficial. It is wise to encourage your high school students to explore as many of their interests as your familys schedule and finances allow. This exploration can provide valuable insight when itââ¬â¢s time to consider their vocational options after graduation. Most people find their most satisfying careers when their interests, talents, and aptitude can be directed toward their lifeââ¬â¢s work. How do you help your student decide on the career path heââ¬â¢ll follow after high school? How to Help Your Homeschooled Teen Choose a Career Path Look for Apprenticeship Opporunities Apprenticeship opportunities arenââ¬â¢t widely available, but they do still exist. You can often find such opportunities with people who are self-employed. Year ago, my husband worked as an apprentice for an appliance repairman. He ultimately decided on a different career path, but the skills he learned have proved invaluable for our family. He has saved us countless dollars in repair fees since he is able to do most of those repairs himself. A few years ago, a self-employed homeschool dad was seeking a homeschooled teen to act as his apprentice. He advertised in our local homeschool groupââ¬â¢s newsletter, so thatââ¬â¢s a good place to check. Look for people seeking an apprentice or advertise your studentââ¬â¢s willingness for such a position. I graduated with a girl who apprenticed with a farrier. A friendââ¬â¢s son apprenticed with a piano tuner. If your student is interested in a particular field, ask friends and family if they know someone who does that type of work. Volunteer Help your student look for volunteer opportunities that align with her interests. Does she think sheââ¬â¢d like to be a marine biologist? Consider volunteering at an aquarium or marine rehabilitation facility. If you live near the coast, check out opportunities to volunteer as a sea turtle nest parent. If your student loves animals, consider zoos, veterinarian offices, animal shelters, or rescue organizations. If sheââ¬â¢s considering healthcare, try hospitals, nursing homes, or doctorââ¬â¢s offices. Would-be journalists might try a newspaper office of television studio. Secure an Internship Talented, hardworking students may be able to land intern jobs. An internship is an opportunity that employers offer for students to get experience in a field that interests them. Itââ¬â¢s a great way for students to see if the career field is something they would truly enjoy pursing. Some internships are paid while others are not. There are full- and part-time internships. Both are usually for a set time, such as a summer intern position, a semester, or a few months. We have a homeschooled friend who is a dual-enrolled high school senior working a full-time internship with an engineering firm. Itââ¬â¢s been a fantastic opportunity to learn more about her desired field while also getting a taste of full-time employment. There are online resources for finding an internship. You can also check with colleges or companies for whom your student would like to work.à Networking among friends and family can also be helpful in discovering potential opportunities.à Take Career Assessments Your student may be unsure what career path interests him. In this case, an aptitude test can be helpful in investigating possible choices based on your students interests, talents, and personality. There are a variety of free aptitude tests and career assessments availableà online. Even if the tests donââ¬â¢t reveal a career path that interests your teen, it may help to spark the brainstorming process. It can also reveal talents and traits he hadnââ¬â¢t considered when thinking of possible vocational options. Consider Hobbies Help your student to objectively assess her hobbies and recreational interests to see if there is a career opportunity there. Your amateur photographer may want to consider a career as a professional. Your musician may want to teach her talents to others. One of our friends, a homeschool graduate, wasà heavily involved in community theaterà as a student. After taking a local acting course, heà is now following his dreams to become a professional actor. Another local graduate is aà gifted sculptor who has traveled abroad studying and creating. Sheà has won several awardsà and been commissioned byà wealthy clients to create artwork. Even if your studentââ¬â¢s passions remain simply lifelong hobbies, theyââ¬â¢re worth investing in and pursuing. Because of the flexibility that homeschooling offers, homeschooled teens have a unique opportunity to fully explore potential vocations. They can also customize their high school courses to prepare for future employment.

CFO mod 1 case Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
CFO mod 1 case - Essay Example This is done in orderto enable them to take better developmental and progressive steps. The title is equivalent to finance director, commonly seen in the United Kingdom. The CFO typically reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and is frequently a member of the board of directors. CFO is a very diverse field. It is basically the back bone of all organizations and institutions. An effective and well equipped administrative department is what ensures that a company reaches its maximum potential and keeps growing bigger and stronger. CEO on the other hand is a field which require well educated and highly motivated, vigilant staff. CEO's are responsible for hiring all personnel, ranging from the janitorial staff, right up to the vice president of any organization. The CEO is a very vital part of the company he follows and keeps updates on all aspects of a company and its staff right from the time they apply for a job till the time they get hired. They keep checks on any and all training and development that is necessary and make all necessary amendments. The question these days has come about regarding the necessity of separate CFO and CEO. And the similar curiosity as to whether there is actual need for a separate training department or not It is also common wondering whether the role of the CFO is a specialist role or can it and should it be fulfilled by a CEO and vice versa. CFO is a very vital part of all organizations. They are responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Human capital. The main functions of CEO's are tracking the data points of each and every employee and staff member. Along with tasks such as selection, placement payroll and evaluation. In order to make a reduction in the excessive work load of these activities organizations started to employ individuals to handle these specific areas and thus there came the admistrative departments. And these days with technology at its peak these tasks are also being taken care of by automated computer based programs. Making it possible for the work of three separate organs of a company the human resource The CEO and the CFO to be done by one person that too with the click of a mouse key. This is the reason that the questions stated earlier regarding the need for separate individuals have started coming up. CONCLUSION: However like it has been mentioned above that both roles are very different from one another and there fore to think that they can be done by one person is not a wise thing. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of an organization has responsibilities that include internal financial control of the organization, financial reporting (external financial accounting), financing the organization, assessment of the capital budgeting process and an array of additional responsibilities. The CFO must have an external orientation and they must know all ways in which they can gather knowledge about the market with which their company deals and also the kind of investments the investors and share holders are making in order to give proper advice for future investments. Louis Vuitton position in the Japanese market Case Study - 1
Louis Vuitton position in the Japanese market - Case Study Example In light of the market trends, Louis Vuitton has strategically adapted new market approaches to the Japanese market. Following the global economic recession of 2008-2009, Japanese luxury goods consumers have become more price conscious. Vis a vis, Louis Vuitton has been forced to re-evaluate its primary marketing strategy of premium brands in the case of the Japanese economy. The company lacks a comprehensive Japanese culture-oriented marketing strategy that would differentiate between the dynamics of the western market and the Japanese market. Employment of the Louis Vuitton global strategy fails to incorporate the cultural aspects of Japanese consumers in terms of price, quality and value addition. The companyââ¬â¢s success in the Japanese market has been driven principally by the group- culture that strongly promotes possession of luxury goods by consumers (Paul and Feroul, 2010). However, the market has been characterized by consumers increased value for their money, thereby a voiding premium-priced luxury goods. Louis Vuitton position in the Japanese market has further been weakened by new marketing strategies by rival brands who have lowered their prices to attract price-sensitive consumers. To maintain its customer base, Louis Vuitton has been forced to also reevaluate its pricing strategies. To cushion themselves from harsh trends in the luxury goods market, rival firms have diversified their services and product portfolio to include non-traditional products. Chocolatier Godiva had announced plans to open up cafes in Tokyo while Vertu a mobile phone company had plans to open up shops in Ginza. Therefore, Louis Vuitton runs the risk of solely depending on luxury goods market. The Japanese market has been identified to be cyclical, characterized by periods of extensive consumer spending, which are followed with reduce consumer expenditure.Ã

Testing of Pharmaceutical Tablet Strip
Testing of Pharmaceutical Tablet Strip CAREER EPISODE 1 1.1 INTRODUCTION I completed my Bachelors degree in electronics and communication engineering in the year 2011. I pursed my engineering from Vyas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jodhpur, India. During my final semester of engineering I had to make a working model in the field of electronics. I came up with a project called Testing of Pharmaceutical Tablet strip. The project was performed in group of three. It was completed under the direction and support of Er. Yogesh Chaudhary. In my first career episode, I have described the work done by me in this project in detail. 1.2 BACKGROUND Requirement of medicines and its production is increasing rapidly. There are possible occurrences of breakage, cracks in the capsule or table while its production. And when these damaged tablets are consumed, it may cause irritation or side effects to other body parts. To inspect the production, it becomes very tough manually but the same task can be achieved with the help of image processing through automation of visual inspection. My project deals with the identification of the damaged products after its manufacturing. It involves series of task like segmentation, image processing, filtration, subtraction, pixel-calculation, de-noising, thresholding, and region based statics to identify the damaged and broken tablets. 1.3 The basic moto behind my project is to identify and filter out the damaged and defective capsule strips. Missing tablet, color, or shape/size difference between a set of tablets, or any crack or breakage in the tablets will be identified and marked as defect through my project. The idea was to reduce the manual work for identification of the damaged tablets as the job can be tedious. And to introduce a new procedure that would contribute in digital technology and for the welfare of the society. Identification of defective tablets is done with the help of image processing that uses various techniques of algorithm for processing all the digital images. 1.4 Image processing works on the technique that uses features like extraction, pattern recognition, edge detection and template matching. This process manipulates the data faster to achieve the desired result. For quality assurance of the products that are being manufactured majorly require automation of visual inspection. In this technique, a morphological operation such as opening operation is used for finding defects. The image is made fit for the further processing by performing image segmentation on the input image and then it is filtered to remove any noise. By inscribing rectangles subtraction is performed on the image with the help of morphological operations and it is also subtracted from original gray image which shows the broken tablets. For calculating the exact location of the broken tablet, pseudo coloring method is used and the pixel of the broken capsule is calculated. Correct size or color and any cracks are detected by performing corner detection and Harris algorithm technique on the tablets. Which is then followed by some pre-processing. After detecting the corners, they are compared with the template image and if there is any mismatch in the feature with the original template and the test image, the tablet gets rejected otherwise it is accept and given for use. 1.5 Me being the team leader, had to work out the flow and plan on how to proceed with the implementation process. I divided the project into small tasks and gave priority to each of them. Then they were assigned the duration in which that task had to be completed. My major task was designing the circuit diagram and block diagram on which the components could be decided. And the other crucial task was software coding. Regular meetings were kept with my team mates and the project guide to get any suggestions for any improvement in the project. Meetings were either through email or small presentations had to be made. 1.6 PERSONAL ENGINEERING ACTIVITY I started off with surveying the market so that the project I make would be useful. I read papers and articles relating the new upcoming technology and tried to do research on image processing methods and its technical specifications. This helped me to learn and build new technical skills. By applying my engineering knowledge and through technical reading I plotted a block diagram and decided upon the main hardware components that could be used for this project. It involved: Electrical components like Power supply of 230V, contractor 220-240V 1.47A, conveyor belt, step down transformer and DC motor. Electronics components such as a microcontroller, LCD, Regulator IC, relay. And a basic camera of 1.3MP/VGA With the help of the hardware components and block diagram I used a PCB designing tool for designing and structuring my circuit diagram. 1.7 After deciding and finalizing of the components, I wrote down the procedure in which the tracking of the missing tablet or damaged table would be done. The camera was used basically to get the complete image of the production. After getting the image, it is converted to monochrome image from RGB one. This results in the display of the tablet strips in black and white form, where the strips will be seen in grey color and the tablets would be in black. A predefined number is assigned and kept for the tablets in a strip to keep the track of it. If the tablets are found to be lower than the defined number after image processing takes place, the microcontroller will signal the second motor to discard the strip detected. This was the logical that was used for finding the tablet strip with missing tablet. 1.8 In the similar fashion a procedure was implied for detecting and finding cracks in the tablets. For that, firstly all other components are removed from the image and only the tablet is seen. This is done through filtration technique of image processing.Ã After this the image is converted to black and white from the original RGB image.Ã Because of such design and method, only cracks could be seen in the image if there are any. They would differ in color from the black tablet. They would appear to be white thin or thick lines. So, by applying such functioning technique, the presence of any crack in the tablet could be traced. 1.9 The working of my model is very simple. Above two logics are converted into a programming code through two software Bascom AVR and MATLAB 2013, and then the code is installed in the microcontroller ATmega16. Working with MATLAB software was not difficult and coding was not an issue because of having a subject of image processing in my curriculum. When the system is powered on with the help of power supply section, the conveyor belt starts to move. When the camera lens attached to the system senses the tablet strip that is passed through the conveyor belt, it would signal the microcontroller to stop the belt that runs with the help of motor 1. This is done for analyzing the tablet strip. ADC is used for converting the analog power signal from sensors to digital form for signaling the microcontroller. The image taken of the tablet strip is scanned and analyzed according[S1] to the functions as designed in MATLAB code. It will check for any defects or cracks or any missing tablet from the strip with the help of the image that was taken through camera. Based on the quality check performed using image enhancement and by carrying out morphological operations in MATLAB, it would signal the microcontroller to start the conveyor belt if no defect is found and in situations of faulty tablet motor 2 is signal to run a rejecting mechanism. A LCD is connected to get the count of number of strips checked, rejected or for the ones that are found defective. USART is used for communicating with the PC through microcontroller and vice-versa. 1.10 In the end, I could complete the project on time. The most difficult part of my project was to design and propose the circuit diagram. As working with PCB designing software was completely new for me. It took several trials before coming on the final figure. And implementation of the hardware was tough. Few minor mistakes created led into a big problem in my end mistake. I de-soldered the wrongly connected component part and connected it in the proper way to get the desired output and the circuit running. At the last stage, a test run was performed before submitted to check the working of each component and to see that the expected output is achieved. Working in teams was a challenging task as coming on one mutually agreed statement and solution is quite difficult. Though I managed my team well and never made any unfair decisions. 1.11 SUMMARY Thus, for companies manufacturing number of tablets in a day, inspecting the final product manually can be tiresome and a tedious job. The company need the help of automated systems. So, my project is an economical and efficient way to solve this problem. They only problem with this system is that it cannot be used for transparent tablet strips and is made to use for single colored tablets. This problem can be solved by performing further expansion on my project. By performing this project, I learnt a way in which the image processing technique is applied. It was a great learning experience. I could use my engineering knowledge and use it to apply theoretical knowledge into practical grounds. While conducting surveys, I could understand the market position and market value of new technologies. It gave me a good exposure. [S1]

By showing this type of irresponsibility on the battlefield it could have costed lives and I know that I would not have been able to handle that. I have determined that due to my recent actions I will not let things like this happen to myself, I am going to take care of my business and get things done the Army way not the shamming Specialist way. The Reasonableness Of Christian Faith - 851 Words
Summa Theologiae was written to display the reasonableness of Christian faith and to train future teachers in guiding others through Christianity, (Lecture, 11.14.2016) whereby one ultimately reaches true happiness. While Christians steadily find pleasure in their acceptance of God, Aquinas maintains that perfect happiness is distinct from this, both in what it entails and how it is achieved. Aquinas believes that humans cannot be entirely happy until fully understanding God, the original cause of their own being, which is impossible until reuniting with God in life after death. Humans cannot be truly happy until their intellect is fulfilled, which is only possible through understanding God. The human intellect instinctively seeks to understand the cause of things, and will not be satisfied simply knowing that such a cause exists (S.Th. II, Q.3, A.8). Aquinas is optimistic about the ability of human reason, and believes that unassisted logic can reveal and defend crucial platforms of the Christian faith, such as Godââ¬â¢s existence (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). God is demonstrated fore mostly through His creations, including humans themselves and their intellects (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). ââ¬Å"Since every effect depends upon its cause,â⬠(S.Th.
